This weekend I went on one of the most fruitful thrifting adventures I'd been on in awhile! Our first stop was meant to be Starbucks, until we ran into two garage sales in a really nice neighborhood! I picked up a wooden whale/shark/fish figurine for FIFTY CENTS as well as a basket I plan on planting a vine in and FIVE awesome pieces of art. Three are original paintings, one is a print, and the other is a really cool magnetic hurricane tracking chart - perfect for living in South Florida. The latter was only $3 and the other four were $15 all together. I haven't been to a yard sale in such a long time but now I definitely feel reenergized to check them out more often!

Thrift Trip: Weekend Picking
The next store I went to was one owned by a family friend, and is most kindly referred to as more of a junk/thrift store, which I absolutely love! Yes, you definitely need to block out a few hours to see the entire store, and even then there's a chance you're going to miss something but it's worth it! I found so many brass items and even though I left some things there, these just had to come home with me. Every so often I come by a cat motif that I cannot say no to and this was definitely one of those times! The turtle's shell opens revealing a small compartment, the small tray needs some cleaning/polishing but is otherwise amazing, the fish is an old ashtray but I loved the little details, and the books are a third edition copy of Jane Eyre and Ancient America Paradise Lost. I also picked up a brass box which I am now obsessed with and tried saying no to (and failed miserably).
Wooden Figurine, $0.50
Basket, $1.00
Large Scale Art, $15 for four pieces
Hurricane Map, $3
Small Brass Tray, Brass Cat Figurine, Fish Motif Ashtray, Brass Turtle, Large Brass Box, Jane Eyre, and Ancient America Paradise Lost, $45 for the lot

Thrift Trip: B is for Brass
I've been following Brynne of The Gathered Home on Instagram for quite some time, so when she started her ABCs of Gathering tag I became really excited as I knew B would be one of my favorites. Of course, it was 'B is for Brass'! I think brass figurines/vessels/lamps are the one thing that I cannot walk away from when I encounter them at the thrift store. Even when I moved I had an entire storage box labeled 'brass tchotchkes," which just goes to show that I take my hoarding collecting seriously!
This weekend while waiting for a seller from OfferUp to meet me (more on that app later!) I had some time to kill so I popped into a Goodwill (or three) to see what I could find. Sure enough, I came home with a few more brass items but also some other things that I really love.
Here are a few of the items that came home with me (not pictured is a rattan wine rack, a children's book that had the most gorgeous images titled Selena, the Mouse, and the Giant Cat, and yet another brass lamp). The brass lobster was my first find and I found it while on my tippy toes feeling around on the top shelf in the home section! I found a few of them on etsy going about 20 times more than I paid for this guy (you can find them here). I can definitely never say no to a brass animal! At the same Goodwill I found both the large and small brass vessels and the silver vessel by F.B. Rogers (you can find them on etsy here).
The wicker tray was a much needed find for me as I just built my new Ikea Billy Bookshelves last week and I need to corral a few items on there and a small print is always a great find!
What are your weekend thrift finds? Let us know in the comments below!
Art print: $2.99
Brass vessel, small: $1
Brass vessel, large: $1.50
Silver vessel: $1
Brass lobster: $2.99
Wicker tray: $1

Thrift Trip: Feeling Literary
I went thrifting at one of my local haunts this weekend and came home with some beautiful hardcover books. The newest additions? Face Forward by Kevyn Acoin, a few Life Nature Library books, one on Evergreens (rightfully titled Evergreens), as well as a Shel Silverstein book - A Light in the Attic. I haven't had a chance to read any of them yet but the photos in these books themselves are amazing.

Thrift Trip: Mixed Metals
Went on a little thrift trip today and here's what I came home with:
I hadn't realized it before checking out, but the clerk at the register saw my cart and said, "Oh, so you have a thing for metals." Yes, I suppose I do! So here's what I came home with: a brass duck bookend, small giraffe ring holder, brass container, and a copper tea pot. Funny enough, I've thrifted these duck bookends before, at a small thrift store in Georgia, so of course this one had to come home with me. I've also been finding a lot of these brass containers recently and I have a bit of a collection going! Also - so very excited about this copper tea pot. I'm thinking of using it as a vessel for flowers?
Any tips on polishing various metals would be much appreciated! That giraffe needs a little bit of attention...
Brass duck bookend: $4.99
Giraffe ring holder: $1.99

"i love lamp" (& Ron Burgundy, too!)
I just wanted to pop in here and say that lately I've been on quite the thrifting kick and have come home with some awesome (to me at least!) finds.
Case in point:
Case in point:
Seriously.
I'm a sucker for brass anything so I'm obviously super obsessed. The day I picked these babies up from my local GW, I was on the phone with my boyfriend and was trying to describe just how happy I was to pick these two up (for $5 a piece, no less!) and his reply? "Is my girlfriend honestly telling me 'I love lamp' right now?" Yes. Yes she was.
Thanks Steve Carell for taking the words right out of my mouth. Also, can I just say how excited I am to see Anchorman 2 this December? Best. Ever.
Now I just have to find the perfect lamp shades...
xx, Hana

thrifty days ahead
One of my New Year's resolutions for 2013 was to spend less - sound familiar to anyone? (; This does not mean in any way that I am on a shopping ban (because let's be serious, who has that much self control!), but only that when I do shell out some money, it is either 1) seriously marked down / bought with the help of coupons 2) from the Thrift Shop (yes, Macklemore - I'm looking at you!) or 3) it'll last me awhile (quality > quantity, always).
Following up with this buying trend (and to make sure I keep on track with this particular resolution), I'll be posting about my savvy shopping endeavors here on Acquired Lovelies! I can only aspire to be one of those crazily thrifty ladies and gents featured on shows like 'Extreme Couponing,' but we'll just have to see where this all takes us (:
To start off, I thought I'd share with you some things I bought from my local Goodwill and another item I bought from a locally run thrift store (which I believe is known simply as, 'thrift shop' - rightfully named I suppose!).
The horse bookend I scored at Goodwill for $2 along with the globe (marked for $4!). I had been searching for a vintage globe for the absolute longest time and was thrilled to find this one marked for so cheap! I have quite the affinity for old maps and globes (I also own a political world map from 1975 - hello, Soviet Union!), and couldn't wait to add this one to my {hopefully} growing collection. The crystal container I bought from my local thrift for $6 - it is absolutely gorgeous, has a very substantial weight to it, and will now possibly house my Revlon Lip Butters (or some other sort of beauty item).
Shopping total: $12 + tax
Until next time,
xx

Thrift Trip - Some Heavy-Hitters
I did a little thrifting yesterday with my sisters and came back with a few pieces that I am incredibly excited about! Oscar de la Renta, Free People, Proenza Schouler for Target, J. Crew, French Connection…and to top it all off, it was student discount day (which I used, even though I am no longer an actual “student” - shh!). A little note about myself - I am an avid thrift shopper with an affinity for vintage (Proof? Dig through some old thrift posts on Hello H!). So of course as soon as I got back into town from a week long vacation spent in Georgia, I found the first excuse I could to go out and search the racks of my local Goodwill (or err, three).
So - what’s in the haul? A leopard print tee by Oscar de la Renta ($4.50), a crochet Free People dress ($5), a cream sequined dress by French Connection ($6), a gorgeous knee-length black dress from H&M ($5), a silk Proenza Schouler for Target blouse that I bought for my sister ($5), a 90s floral and polka dot dress ($5), a J. Crew tank ($5), a sheer navy collared top ($5), Madden Girl platform wedges ($5, as seen here), and two photo frames that I bought for $3 each (soon to be repainted a metallic gold!).
Also in the mix are a few pieces that I picked up before my trip, which include a Liz Claibourne silk utility blouse (I’m all about silk tops for fall!), a black & white sheer kimono-esque top that I DIY’d (originally it had a top sewn into it), a vintage pajama-wear type silk blouse that had beautiful cuff links attached to the sleeves, a vintage Dooney and Bourke purse ($10), an ostrich leather handbag ($3), and two interesting necklaces bought for $3 each. Have any great thrifted finds of your own? Leave it in the comments below!

Black Lace
Took this dress out for a spin tonight! It's a vintage 80s lace overlay tent dress (whose shoulder pads I promptly removed ahem...in the dressing room) that I bought at Goodwill for $4. Also wearing vintage gold bracelets (from goodwill and a yard sale, respectively) and a Jewelmint ring!
On another note, I am now a writer for Fashion Parkway, an up-and-coming blog / online magazine which focuses on Florida fashion (though we're branching out and covering fashion on a more global scale). I'll be your go-to girl for everything thrifted or vintage and also will focus on trends from my neck of the woods - Miami! Stay tuned!

Dooney & Bourke
So in love with this vintage Dooney & Bourke cross-body that I picked up a few days ago! I was a little hesitant about its $25 price tag, but it is in amazing condition and feels heavenly (;

cravings
I’ve reaaaaally been craving sweater weather and until that happens, I guess I’ll just have to continue my semi-unhealthy sweater-hoarding habit. Newest additions? This super soft vintage grey sweater with white little bows (it came with a matching skirt that I will definitely not be wearing with it - sweater suit? no thanks!), a Liz Claiborne grey with white stripes sweater dress, a seafoam green silk top by Jones New York, a black knotted belt (of which I have an off-white one found a few years ago), a Liz Claiborne periwinkle skinny belt, Liz Claiborne small cognac crossbody purse, and a black and brown with gold hardware crossbody purse.

Seeing Gold
Vintage pins and earrings I picked up today for $2 each (the bicycle pin was only $1). My GW never carries accessories, so these were a nice surprise. Also purchased: an oversized blue mens knitted sweater (to be worn as a dress - $5), yellow boyfriend cardigan with black polka dots (which reminds me of the Jeremy Scott jumpsuit Gaga wore in Paparazzi -$5), a Charlotte Ronson mini triangle printed dress ($3), and a Kate Spade handbag (which was marked for $4 and rung up for $2.50). That last part absolutely made my day!

Saturdays are for Thrifting
After being on a no-shopping ban for the month of April, I decided to treat myself to a little thrift shopping Saturday morning.

also purchased - black leather ankle boots (i have no impulse control when it comes to black boots, as seen here), $4.50, vintage bright fuchsia pleated shorts, $2.50, vintage coral silk top $4, sea foam green Zara tee $4, Zara sheep printed skirt, $5, NY & Co. 3/4 sleeve cardigan, $4, and three high-waisted denim shorts (in coral, black, and denim blue) by Crossroads and Liz Claiborne for $2.50 each
